This doctoral and post-doctoral seminar will examine the disciplines and approach to metaphysics and phenomenology not only from a Western but also from an Eastern perspective. Western authors who devoted their lives (in research and experience) to the study of Eastern cultures will be the focus of attention, including Mircea Eliade, Georges Dumézil and Alain Daniélou. Interestingly, the discussion on Alain Daniélou will focus on his controversial book Shiva and Dionysos, the intuitions of which may inaugurate manifold dimensions of transcultural exchange.
